The August 21, 2026 rework turned Night 1 closets into a skill check. Stuffing the squad into one wardrobe and waiting is how The Mutant starts a QTE and pulls you out.
Hide only indoors
Hide when all of these are true:
- He is inside the house. Lights no longer scare him there.
- He has line of sight, or you stepped on a spit trap.
- A closet is one short sprint away.
- A teammate is not already using that closet.
At a window, turn the room lights on and repair. Do not hide through a window attack.
Spit, then the prompt
After a chase he can spit a trap that stuns and chips health. Treat it as a closet timer. If you ignore it, the chase continues until you go down or you break line of sight into a closet. Call "trap down" so the camera player stops asking for window lights.
If he sees you in the closet:
- Win the QTE and he leaves the house. That is the clean indoor reset. It does not end the night.
- Fail it and you take the jumpscare and return to the chase.
- If he never looked at the closet, wait until the footsteps fade and leave. No minigame. That is the better outcome, so enter before he is looking at the door.
The prompt follows your platform. Do not start it on an empty stamina bar. One player per closet. The camera caller stays out unless they are the person being chased.
After a won QTE, shut the front door and check windows. He is outside again, so lights work again.
Graves is a different closet rule
On the Graves modifier, one zombie can be locked in a closet because those undeads do not break closets. That is not a Mutant trick. Do not try to jail Larry.
Blizzard cold is not solved by a closet. You still need the fireplace. Thunderstorm fuse strikes still need someone outside the wardrobe.
Practice two vanilla wins before you add Bloodmoon, which makes him faster and the night longer.
